GM and NBC Team Up for the Olympics

Having lost any chance of becoming an active player on the main scene of next year's Olympics, mainly because the event takes place in London, American manufacturer GM is trying to make the most out of the exposure it can gain by teaming up with NBC Universal, the network which will broadcast the Olympics in the US next year.

In fact, the American car maker has received from NBC exclusive domestic automotive advertising rights, meaning that all you'll see during those pesky commercial breaks will be GM cars. The Chevrolet and Cadillac brands for instance will get a heavy presence on TV in 2012, from July 27 to August 12, 2012.

The car maker thus continues the tradition which started with the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney back in 2000, when it first became involved with the games.

“Media partnerships like this provide great opportunities for us to spread the word about our newest cars, trucks and crossovers,” said Joel Ewanick, GM’s global chief marketing officer.

“GM has been a huge fan of the Olympic Games for decades, and we look forward to being a partner in a big way with NBC Universal as it again covers one of the world’s most significant sporting events.”

In addition, the network will further express its love for GM's money by featuring its models in select NBC Olympic-related programming leading up to the Games and online at NBCOlympics.com.

“Chevrolet and Cadillac are two of the world’s premier automotive brands in the midst of a remarkable resurgence, so it’s terrific to see them make a major investment in our coverage of the London Games,” said Gary Zenkel, president, NBC Olympics.
