GM Already Sold 2 Million Cars in China... Again

The Chinese market is very important for GM, as the American automaker is even expected to produce electric vehicles there next year in order to take advantage of new government incentives.
Last year, GM became the first automaker to sell over 2 million vehicles in China in a single year, and now, the milestone has bee set again, as the sales figure has been reached for 2011, only much faster than before.

“This is another outstanding achievement for GM in the world’s largest vehicle market,”
said Kevin Wale, president and managing director of the GM China Group. “Our key brands and many of our key products have continued to experience record demand despite intense competition.”

Throught the year, demand for Buicks has been especially strong, rising 24 percent compared to 2010, while Chevrolet grew 18 percent and Cadillac jumped 73 percent. As part of their global ambitions, vehicles wearing the Cadillac badge will likely also be built in China.

“We do not intend to rest on our laurels,” said Wale. “We look forward to building on our success through the ongoing introduction of great new products and services for the people of China.”

GM has 11 joint ventures, two wholly owned foreign enterprises and more than 35,000 employees in China. The cars are sold under Baojun, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Jiefang, Opel and Wuling brands.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
