Ultimately, common sense prevailed and Glock decided not to interfere with his recuperation programme, as this would have certainly affected his off-season preparation and testing for the 2010 campaign. While still on the lookout for an official commitment for next season – either with Toyota or some other team – Glock decided to watch the race at Yas Marina Circuit from the sidelines.
“Everyone at the Sport Clinic Bad Nauheim tried everything possible to help me to get fit for the race, but Abu Dhabi is three or four weeks too early. The doctor told me right from the start that it will take up to eight weeks (to regain full fitness) so I can't have any complaints,” said Glock on his personal website.
“I was told that there is still some risk if I raced in Abu Dhabi. It was not an easy decision to make, but ultimately my head prevailed over my heart,” added the German driver.
Glock injured himself during the qualifying session of the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka, when a crash resulted in a cracked vertebra and cut leg. However, as revealed by the man himself, he will make the trip to Abu Dhabi this weekend in order to hold some preliminary talks for his 2010 contract.
According to German news agency SID, Glock's manager Hans Bernd Kamps revealed that he can secure a 2010 deal for his client in 2 weeks time. “We had five prospective teams, and we negotiate seriously with three," Kamps said.
