Glock Reveals 99.9 Percent Virgin Stay

Timo Glock has almost fully secured his place in the Virgin Racing lineup for the 2011 season of Formula One. The German racer told the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper that his chances of driving a Virgin Racing-prepared challenger next season are 99.9 percent.

Now, we're not really sure what to make of his comments. Either he hopes to retain his seat with the British team and a signature is all he needs to make it official, or he is still aiming, in the back of his mind, to switch to a team that can actually fight for points. That squad would obviously have to be Renault, a team with which he has been recently linked.

However, since the latest reports in the media give current Renault racer Vitaly Petrov the most chances of extending his stay at Enstone, Glock will probably have to settle for Virgin. But while securing another season in Formula One, Glock insisted that he's yet to give up on his dream of battling for the world title.

If you have the opportunity to go to Red Bull or McLaren, then you'd have to go for it. From a sporting perspective you are open to new possibilities. It is definitely still my goal to go for the world championship,” said the former GP2 champion, who's initial aim when making his switch to F1 was to become a title contender in 3 years time. That happened back in 2008, by the way.

Glock knew very well what he got himself into last year, when he practically rescued his career by signing with Virgin. His Toyota F1 Racing team, which had finally began to build some competitive F1 cars, decided to leave the series, and newly-entrants Virgin Racing were right there to lend him a hand.

In the winter we lost too much time because some basic things did not work, but you can't expect it all to fall into place right away for a new team with a blank sheet of paper,” explained Glock his 2010 campaign, in which he recorded no less than 9 DNFs from 19 races.
