Less than a month before the Red Bull Global RallyCross was scheduled to roll through Detroit, MI for the sixth of 10 planned rounds, Red Bull Global Rallycross has announced a change that drops Detroit from the 2014 schedule. To preserve the number of races for the 2014 season, GRC will now be running two races over the weekend of September 19-21 when the series swings through Los Angeles.
We reached out to GRC for official word on the cancellation of the Detroit event, and this was the response: “The schedule change was made due to event location feasibility in Detroit. We were then presented with the unique opportunity to produce a doubleheader event in Los Angeles that would allow us to maintain our commitment to a 10-race championship schedule.

There was no definitive word as to what changed with the “location feasibility,” but organizers aren’t writing Detroit off its event calendar completely. In the official press release, Red Bull Global Rallycross CEO Colin Dyne said, ”we remain committed to our fanbase in Detroit, and we look forward to racing in the Motor City in 2015.

In the release, Dyne goes on to say: “Los Angeles has been the home of Red Bull Global Rallycross since the series was founded, and is home to some of our most passionate fans as well. By converting our round in Los Angeles into a three-day event and points-paying doubleheader, we offer additional value to our fans in one of our core markets, as well as creating additional championship intrigue for our fans watching at home on NBC.”

The Detroit round of Red Bull Global Rallycross was supposed to be run on the weekend of August 2-3, but instead of the live race, it will now air a 90-minute recap of the current season, which will be televised by NBC on August 3 at 4:30 p.m. Eastern Time. Below is the revised schedule for the remaining 2014 Red Bull Global Rallycross season:

July 19-20: Volkswagen Rallycross NY
July 25-26: Red Bull Global Rallycross Charlotte
Aug. 22-23: Red Bull Global Rallycross Daytona
Sept. 19-20: Red Bull Global Rallycross Los Angeles I
Sept. 21: Red Bull Global Rallycross Los Angeles II
Sept. 26-27: Red Bull Global Rallycross Seattle
Nov. 5: Red Bull Global Rallycross Las Vegas
