The GL-Class is the largest SUV that Mercedes-Benz makes and, since it's currently at its second generation, the ginormous 4x4 has also received a bonkers AMG version for the very first time.
Sharing its engine with the Performance Pack version of the smaller ML 63 AMG, the AMG variant of the GL packs 557 hp and a staggering 760 Nm (650 lb ft) of torque.
The GL 63 AMG is also the heaviest car in the Mercedes-Benz lineup. With 2580 kg (5687 pounds) to carry, you'd think that its engine, even in AMG tune, would somehow struggle moving the gargantuan all-wheel drive monster.
You would be wrong to think that, because the official naught to 100 km/h (62 mph) time for this beast is a hard-to-believe 4.9 seconds.
The Aussies from Performance Drive timed the same feat at 5.2 seconds, but we have no idea of that tests' conditions. What we do know is that they took a GL 63 AMG for a test drive and came up with a bunch of both pro and anti conclusions about the car.
You can check out their well-written review here and also see a few ear-gasm-inducing runs with the car in the following video.
