Well, some people think the SL-Class deserves to fail. But not only is this one of the most iconic models Mercedes ever made, but it also comes with a thumping V8 engine. Up next, we're going to see this roadster of mass destruction going up against fellow AMGs, along with a Liberty Walk GT-R.
The SL 63 in question is a 2018 model, supposedly, but you'll still find a 5.5-liter bi-turbo V8 engine under its hood. This high-performance, hand-built unit produces 577 horsepower, which sounds like a lot until you realize that the new E63 has more.

Regardless, is devilish good looks are being taken advantage by a couple of women. By the looks of things, their partners are in the other AMG models. First to the line is the S63 Coupe. Because it doesn't have the bulging grille, it should be the early model with the 5.5L engine as well, not the newer 4.0-liter.

Even though roadsters are supposed to be heavier and slower, the SL proves more than a match for its S-Class rival. The next contender arrives, and it's the GLE 63, also equipped with the older generation of AMG V8. It too gets a spanking from the flagship roadster.

There's no question that an AMG GT R or the latest E63 S with all-wheel-drive would have performed even better in this race. But there's something... nostalgic about the way the 5.5-liter sounds. Mercedes-AMG models from a few years ago were a little more brutish, less concerned with perfectly sculpted lines, driver aids, and fuel economy.

Slowly but surely, Affalterback will move away from sledgehammers on wheels and into hybrids, potentially even the first electric models. We say that because Porsche is leading the market in that direction, and we're not too excited about warming up the batteries before having some quiet drag races.
