Gintautas Igaris' Terrible Crash in the 2013 Dakar

This video show one of the very dangerous parts of the Dakar Rallies: crashing. Given the very nature of the race, competitors are always pushing hard in their attempt to cover the special stages and liasion portions as fast as possible.
However, while sand dunes are relatively even and riders deice to either ride full-in into them or find a route around, roads and canyons leave little options. In fact the only option is to ride as swiftly as possible while trying to avoid dangers.

Unfortunately, these roads have a lot of hidden traps, whether it's about rocks, holes, loose gravel and the like, and sometimes the rider coming in hard in these portions has no chance. Lituanian rider Gintautas Igaris had a severe crash in the 6th stage, and was forced into withdrawal.

His Yamaha would no longer start and Igaris was pretty shaken, even if he has not sustained massive injuries. One of his fellow riders got to push the emergency button on his bike so a motorized medical crew and helicopter arrived at the crash site in due time.
