Gilles Is a Fan of SRT Performance Diesel

Right now, BMW is leading the field in performance diesel technology with their powerful straight-six tri-turbo engine fitted to the 5-Series, X5 and X6 M Performance models. Audi also has a powerful yet efficient V6 and Mercedes have announced similar plans.

The US is slow to pick up on downsized performance diesel due to lack of widespread availability for this fuel and emissions laws.

But people with a strong automotive passion, like Ralph Gilles, who wants to encourage Detroit’s youth into the car industry, find the performance diesel interesting, even for America.

The boss of the SRT performance brand says he’s interested in the technology in a recent tweet. “I am a fan, We would cut our teeth in Europe first,” Gilles says.

The only global product we can think of has to be the next Chrysler 200 or the Dodge dart. But with Europe’s love of hot SUVs, diesel performance could arrive via the Jeep brand.
