The birthday cake Giacomo Agostini should receive would certainly look awkward if done by the book. Blowing out 74 candles would be a rather difficult task even for a guy like Ago, who is used to making the impossible possible.
The great Ago was born on 16th June in 1942 and in 1963 he took the start in his first race, in the Nations Grand Prix. It would be the beginning of a spectacular career that saw him achieve glory on two wheels with multiple manufacturers, even though he ties his name to MV Agusta more than to any other factory.

As it was accustomed back in the day, Giacomo Agostini was involved in more than one championship at a time, so that's why he was able o achieve so many GP wins during a career that was nowhere near as lengthy as others'.

Ago raced between 1963 and 1977, yet he managed to win no less than 15 championships and 122 GP races. Also, he contested eight times in the TT and summed 10 victories there, too, across all classes.

He dominated both the 350cc and the 500cc categories between 1967 and 1973 aboard MV Agusta machinery, prior to making a move and going at Yamaha. However, he also brought Iwata two world titles, of which the last one, in 1975, would be his last championship victory.

Agostini added even more to his glory as a race with his participation in the Formula 750 and the British Formula One championships, Agostini, before becoming a team manager, and TV commentator.

As a token of gratitude, both MV Agusta and Yamaha manufactured special edition machines, albeit the ones House Schiranna delivered were true pieces of art and they now fetch small fortunes on the rare occasions when they show up in auctions.

Agostini still attends racing and motorcycle-related events, and we wish him a happy birthday and the power to carry on inspiring the new generations of riders.
