GI Joe Brings Automotive Armaggedon In the Cinemas

Paramount Pictures and Hasbro, whose previous collaboration was the worldwide blockbuster “Transformers”, joined forces with Spyglass Entertainment for another action-adventure movie that is expected to hit the cinemas tomorrow: “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra”.

Though most of us were somehow sure that G.I Joe will be overloaded with explosions and special effects since Stephen Sommers was announced as the movie director (the same who directed ‘The Mummy’ and ‘Van Helsing’), we would have never expected for it to break the record for having destroyed the most cars in a movie.

“I think we beat the record, which was The Blues Brothers which had 103 cars wrecked. I think we actually bought and destroyed over 112 cars,” executive producer David Womark was quoted as saying by the Auto Trader. “It looks like every single car in Paris is flying!” added one of the stunt co-ordinators.

Production designer Ed Vereaux was responsible for the amazing number of aircraft and other vehicles seen in the film. “We basically built all of the military vehicles,” Vereaux said. “We knew there were going to be ‘X’ amount of shots of a certain vehicle doing something a certain way. Some had to explode a certain way, some had to flip,” he added.

For those of you who don’t know what is “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” all about and why it needed that much action scenes, let us just tell you that it tells the story of an elite military unit comprised of special operatives known as Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity, operating out of The Pit and taking on an evil organization led by a notorious arms dealer.
