GHz vs HP: Vision GTI Concept Coming to Goodwood Festival of Speed

Volkswagen's road cars never were as cool as the Aston Martins and Jaguars that usually draw the huge crowds at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. However, this year, they do have something that's as special as an F-Type. The same GTI Roadster concept built for the racing game Gran Turismo 6 is coming to "the largest motoring garden party in the world".

Fresh from its debut at the Worthersee garden party gathering of GTI fans, the Vision GTI, as everybody calls it, is bringing its 503 PS 3-liter V6 biturbo TSI engine

Like all good things in the auto industry, the Vision GTI was built by passionate people on a rushed schedule without too much corporate intervention. The cheeky Germans are also inviting us to drive the car, which sounds terribly exciting until you realize that they mean in the game.

That's not all that's coming to Goodwood though, as the Germans are also revealing the Touareg facelift for the first time at a major event and also showing the Golf GTE, Golf R, Polo WRC rally racer and XL1.

The 300 hp Golf R is of course the fastest Golf ever made for the road and it's plenty-powerful enough to take on any hill climb event. The GTE on the other hand is the car of the future, capable of both 0 to 62 mph in 7.6 seconds and combined fuel economy of 188 mpg (1.5 l/100km), equivalent to CO2 emissions of 35 g/km.

Finally, the ultra-frugal XL1 will be both on the Volkswagen stand and making its way up the hill. The XL1 is the world’s most energy-efficient production vehicle (at least that's what VW says), with a combined fuel consumption figure of 313 mpg and CO2 emissions of 21 g/km.
