Ghostly Rolls-Royce Recall: One Ghost Unit Called Back

Ever since the number of recalls started to surge last year, we’ve always been kept at the edge of losing track of how many vehicles are being involved in such campaigns. Nevertheless, there’s one carmaker that seems to use the opposite approach, and we’re talking about Rolls-Royce here.

The British company has always been about keeping its lavish approach simple and things are no different with its most recent recall campaign. Rolls-Royce is recalling... one example of the Ghost.

While the ghostly announcement only targets one example of the company’s “entry-level” sedan, we have to explain we are talking about a 2015 model. This is a Series II (mid-cycle revision in RR talk) model that rolled out of the factory gates in Goodwood on January 23, 2014.

The problem is connected to the vehicle’s airbags. To be more specific, the thorax airbags installed on both front seats may not deliver the expected protection.

The affected vehicle has thorax air bags fitted to both front seats that may fail to meet the side impact performance requirements for the front seat occupants. As such, this vehicle may fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 214, ‘Side Impact Protection’,” the official statement, which was released by Rolls-Royce parent company BMW, reads.

The issue can obviously lead to an increased risk of injury in the event of a crash, which has determined the company to take action through its local dealer. The driver and passenger side airbags will be replaced free of charge.

With the campaign having kicked off on October 22 and targeting a single vehicle, the issue may have already been solved.

Even so, if you own a 2015 Ghost and are unsure of whether your vehicle is the affected one, you can contact Rolls-Royce at 1-877-877-3735 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153).
