Get Yourself a BMW E30 316i Touring for just... $18,000??

We recently stumbled upon a Craigslist ad for a BMW E30 316i Touring and we were quite surprised of its price tag: $18,000. Now, the owner claims that this is a very rare car but what exactly does give it that ‘rare’ character?
Well, according to the ad, nothing much. The car does seem to be wearing a full M-Technik body kit and some Alpina wheels (not BBSs as the ad says) but that’s not nearly enough to as 18 grand for it.

It’s fitted with the M40 engine and has a 5-speed manual transmission that proved their reliability over the years. However, even the odometer is against this car as it seemingly has 100,000 miles on it (160,000 km).

According to the ad, the car draws a lot of ‘positive attention’ but for that kind of money, we’d expect a bit more out of it. Similar cars are being sold in Europe for around $3,000 and, while you may have slimmer chances to get one in the US, it’s still not worth 6 times more, no matter what you’ve done to it.

For that kind of money, you could get the real deal, the one E30 everybody wants, the M3. Sure, it may not be in perfect shape but at least you’d have a 2-liter 200 HP engine under the bonnet and the work of the masters over in the Motorsport division at your side. Now, the problem is not that he’s asking so much but whether someone would be willing to pay that amount of money for a red E30 316i Touring. Would you?
