The Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door was presented in March at the Geneva Motor Show as the third sports car developed in-house by the high-performance sub-brand of the German carmaker. It follows in the tire tracks set by the SLS AMG and the GT, but is the first one to come in a four doors configuration.

"The production of the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupé at the Mercedes-Benz plant Sindelfingen corroborates the importance and the flexibility of the location,” said in a statement Sindelfingen site manager Michael Bauer.

“Our team is highly motivated and excited to continue writing the GT-success story with their own know-how and experience.“

On launch, probably by the end of this year, the car will come with a choice of two engines, with the top one making the GT one of the fastest three-pointed star cars in history.

That top of the range engine is a 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V8 that will be fitted on the Mercedes-AMG GT 63. It develops 585 hp and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque, reaching a top speed of 310 kps (193 mph) and a hitting 62 mph from a standstill in 3.4 seconds.

The GT 63 will also get an S version, which increases the power to 639 hp and 900 Nm (664 lb-ft) of torque, meaning an increase in speed to a total of 315 kph (196 mph) and an acceleration time of 3.2 seconds.

The less powerful turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six will make its way into the Mercedes-AMG GT 53 with 435 hp. Because it is paired with a 48V mild-hybrid technology, it gets from time to time a boost in power of 22 hp.

The first batches of cars to roll off assembly lines in Sindelfingen will be sold for one year alone as Edition 1, but only in the GT 63 S configuration. Pricing has not yet been announced.
