Get Hooked On VW Snakey

Though it might not be the ultimate gadget for some, the new headrest hook from Volkswagen can be qualified as extremely original and practical when it comes to have your bags and coats securely held in place inside the car. Dubbed Snakey, the gadget was developed by the specialists at Volkswagen Accessories in conjunction with a forum of students at the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences.

The forum gives young design students a chance to demonstrate their creativity, to get thinking about automotive-specific subjects and to transform these thoughts into concrete product ideas. The prototypes are first presented to the Volkswagen designers and then tested for feasibility. Best students are offered an internship at Volkswagen Design.

“Once again a contribution from the design forum has been able to make the difficult leap from idea to implementation,” Thomas Rath, Managing Director of Volkswagen Accessories, said in a release. “We were captivated by this concept from two budding designers, Boris Innecken and Adrian Waibel, in terms of its design, function and practicality.”

Snakey can be easily attached to the headrest struts and offers a way to secure bags or items of clothing to either the front or rear side of the front seat. The mounting procedure is quite simple: all you have to do is to remove the headrest, slide Snakey over the struts and refit the headrest onto the seat.

The product is made of expandable and resilient material and can hold up to two kilograms of weight. Customers have a choice of colors, beige or black. In 2010 Volkswagen Accessories plans to launch additional color varieties.
