Legendary car customizer George Barris is known for creating the first Batmobile ever showcased on TV, but his work went far beyond developing props for show business. One of them is for sale, Car&Driver reports.
Even though the car designer and customizer passed away last month, his legacy lives on, and most of his four-wheeled creations will continue to impress generations to come.

Recently, one of his early builds popped up for sale on eBay. We're talking about the Barris T Buggy prototype, the car that George himself used to test and prove the concept of a kit car that the famous craftsman eventually sold in limited numbers.

This particular example was built in 1965 and is equipped with a Chevrolet Corvair engine. At the time, customers could choose between a VW or a Chevy Corvair engine, both of which were air cooled and mounted on the rear axle. The GM-designed engine was often used as a swap for VW Type 2 cars made after 1967.

The Barris T Buggy offered for sale on eBay is a fully restored prototype. Not only has the car been used by George Barris himself but the vehicle was restored by a shop in California called Advanced Restorations, with guidelines from the original creator of the car.

The starting bid for the car is $48.500, but previous and more famous works by Barris have sold for significant amounts in the past.

So far, the auction hasn't received any bids, but a buyer could show up in the next five days. The seller claims to have a complete record of the parts fitted to the car and full documents of the restoration procedure.

From the steel tube chassis to the fully restored interior, the car has many custom parts. What remains to be seen is how much this unique part of automotive history will sell for in the auction started on eBay Motors.
