The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) informs about the recall campaign number 14V408000, which is aimed at 800 Genuine Scooters machines whose engines may stall without warning.
LML, the Indian manufacturer which supplies Chicago-based Genuine Scooters has informed the American retailer about the possibility that 800 Stella 125 Automatic scooters may have been assembled with a faulty ECU. In turn, Genuine Scooters informed the NHTSA about this issue and will start notifying customers in September 2014. The retailer and authorized dealers will replace the defective ECU with a properly manufactured unit.

Genuine Scooters also mentions that a circuit in the ECU of specific Stella 125 Automatic (the only automatic model in the line-up) might become damaged even during starting, leading to a dead engine. At the same time, the ECU’s might stop functioning during riding, posing an increased risk of crashing.

So far, no injuries or accidents have been reported, but 37 warranty claims have been filed. The affected Stella 125 Automatic scooters have been manufactured between December 2013 and March 2014. These scooters have VIN numbers ranging between MD7CF94D0E3005514 and MD7CF94DXE3006749.

Customers who have bought defective machines are advised to contact Genuine Scooters as soon as possible and avoid to ride them until the ECU is replaced. Genuine Scooters can be also reached by phone at 1-773-433-1311.
