They say talent knows no boundaries, and at some level, this is entirely true. And the living proof in this regard is an original Gran Turismo player who used the free time everybody had during the never-ending quarantine to build paper models based on the cars in the game.
So technically, what he did was to look for the textures of the cars in the original Gran Turismo game, print everything, and then glue them together to create a paper-based replica that we can all enjoy.
The one you’re looking at here is a 1997 Acura Integra Type R, and while you might be thinking the quality of the graphics isn’t the best, just think it’s the original Gran Turismo we’re talking about here, so it all kind of makes sense.
For what it’s worth, the original Gran Turismo launched on PlayStation back in 1997 with 140 cars and 11 tracks; needless to say, the quality of the graphics was far from the one we can all enjoy today in GTS. Kazunori Yamauchi, game designer, professional racing driver, and CEO of Polyphony Digital, the company that brought us Gran Turismo, said the cars in the original game feature just 300 polygons. In comparison, the versions included in Gran Turismo 5 included no less than 500,000 polygons.
So it’s pretty clear the quality of the graphics has skyrocketed in the last two decades, but this doesn’t necessarily mean the good old days when pixelated cars were all we got on our consoles aren’t enjoyable anymore.
As for those waiting for the all-new Gran Turismo 7, it’s expected to launch later this year on PlayStation 5, and of course, this has made so many players out there delay the purchase of the console just because this is the game they want to play first when it comes out.
Sony is also likely to offer Gran Turismo 7 PlayStation 5 bundles, but additional info will definitely be shared as we get closer to the launch.
