The fifth generation of the Golf GTI was the one that brought back the spirit of the three letters, but we had to wait until now, when the seventh generation of the Golf is preparing to be launched, in order to receive an open top version of the GTI, based, of course, on the Golf VI.
This borrows the hatchback’s 2.0-liter turbo four that produces 210 hp and a peak torque of 280 Nm (206 lb-ft). Power is delivered to the front wheels via a six-speed manual or an optional DSG double clutch transmission and tamed via an EDS & XDS electronic “limited slip differential”.
The vehicle needs 0.1 seconds more than the hatch to hit 100 km/h (it does this in 7.3 seconds), while folding the top requires 9.5 seconds. The vehicle will hit showrooms across Europe later this year.
