This year’s edition of the Geneva Motor Show brings a rare occasion, as it allows us to see a Porsche booth with not one but two new sports cars. Alongside the fresh 997 generation of the 911 we have the not-so-rear-engined and even fresher 981 Porsche Boxster.
We stopped near the Boxster S for a few moments to behold the new body, which has grown a bit. Don’t worry, despite the more generous dimensions, the vehicle is now lighter, tipping the scales at 77 lbs (35 kg) lower.

At the middle, we have a 3.4-liter flat six that offers an extra 5 hp compared to the previous generation, allowing the driver to play with a total of 315 hp. You can’t have the 911’s seven-speed manual, but you can choose between a six-speed one and a seven-speed PDK double clutch transmission, with both offering a start-stop function.

The vehicle needs 5 seconds to hit 62 mph from a standing start, which is just 0.1 seconds slower than the previous generation 911. We’d advise you to tick the box that says “Sport Chrono Pacakge”, as this will bring you tech goodies such as the Porsche Torque Vectoring system and dynamic transmission mounts (the dynamic mounts, albeit for the engine, were introduced in the Porsche range by the outgoing 997 generation of the 911 Turbo).

The vehicle is scheduled to arrive in European showrooms in April, while US customers will receive it starting from this summer.
