Geneva 2012: Infiniti Emerg-E Concept

The Emerg-E Concept that was revealed today is definitely bringing sexy back to the Infiniti brand, even though it’s a basic shade of silver. This two-seater is the Japanese luxury brand’s first mid-engined car and it was developed with help from Lotus.

The car represents what Infinitis could be like in a couple of generations - a sporty tree-hugger packed with technology.

The Emerg-E is powered by two electric motors that combined produce 402 horsepower (300kW). Those horses are sent to the back via a single speed XTRAC transmission, which are backed by a lithium-ion battery mounted behind the seats offering 30 miles (48 km) of electric range.

When you run out of juice, a Lotus-developed 1,2-liter 3-cylinder engine takes over as a range extender.

"Mid-ship cars are usually less refined, but the body of INFINITI EMERG-E is like silk wrapping over the wheels.", Senior Vice President and Chief Creative Officer Shiro Nakamura.
