Nissan has launched the brand new version of the Micra, called the DIG-S, at the Geneva Motor Show. Thanks to its CO2 emissions of only 95 g/km, the car is one of the cleanest-burning petrol car in the world. In order to achieve that figure, the Japanese carmaker has used a 1.2-liter three-cylinder unit fitted with a supercharger and direct injection, which can be coupled either to a manual transmission or a CVT automatic gearbox.

The DIG-S comes with a peak power output of 98 hp plus 142 Nm (105 lb-ft) of torque. This is enough for a conventional sprint 1.5-liter four-cylinder unit. Among the other tech highlights of the 1.2-liter engine, we would include said Pierre Loing, Vice President Product Strategy and Planning, Nissan International SA.

When equipped with a manual transmission, the entry-level trim level of the Micra DIG-S hits a top speed of 180 km/h (112 mph), while returning an estimated fuel consumption of 4.1 lt/100 km (57.4 US mpg).

"Nissan is just as committed to reducing emissions from cars powered by the internal combustion engine as it is to developing new zero emission electric vehicles. The Nissan Micra DIG-S showcases how far our engineers have come," said Pierre Loing, Vice President Product Strategy and Planning, Nissan International SA.

"Ultra low emissions with no compromise when it comes to drivability means the Nissan Micra DIG-S sets new standards for the current generation of city cars. No other petrol-powered compact hatchback can match its overall efficiency... and it is more than a match for an equivalent diesel," he added.
