One of the most anticipated world premieres taking place at the Geneva Auto Show these days is the new Mazda MINAGI compact crossover SUV concept. The Japanese automaker is using the vehicle to showcase its all-new SKYACTIV technologies and a new design theme, KODO – Soul of Motion.

“The exciting MINAGI concept is the forerunner to the launch of Mazda’s upcoming next-generation products and symbolises the evolution of the Mazda brand for a new era,”
the company says.

The MINAGI is equipped with a SKYACTIV engine and SKYACTIV transmission fitted to a SKYACTIV body and chassis. According to Mazda, these combine in a low-weight with a highly-safe package.

“The MINAGI’s new SKYACTIV technologies have been carefully developed to build harmony between driving pleasure and outstanding environmental and safety performance,” a company statement reads. “Meanwhile, the MINAGI’s KODO design evokes a powerful and emotive sense of pent-up energy and vitality – helping the vehicle stand out in a sprawling urban cityscape.”

Exterior highlights of the MINAGI include the chromed ‘signature wing’ on the front fascia, a front grille that is slightly angled downwards, while juxtaposing the headlamp housings design to slant upward. The rear fenders project outward to create a wide, SUV-style stance. Also, “the design of the three-dimensional headlamp and rear combination lamps add a heightened sense of depth,” as Mazda says.

Inside, the main black interior color is highlighted by the color red or the rear seatbacks and at the bottom of the door armrests. There is also a ‘black smoked’ coating on the tinted horizontal metal panel positioned along the center of the instrument panel.
