The Geneva floor is packed with new developments that are racing to capture our attention. However, some four-wheeled goodies are more special than others and this is why we have orders to shoot them on site. The latest victim? The Maserati GranCabrio Sport.

The GranCabrio, which came to the world at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show, now received a hardcore version that joins the dark side of Maserati’s moon (the GranTurismo S and the Quattroporte Sport GT S).

At the heart of the car we find a beefed-up 4.7-liter V8 unit that delivers 450 hp and a peak torque of 510 Nm, working with a ZF six-speed automatic tranny. The unit is a child of Maserati’s Friction Reduction Program, which means that it offers a quicker response and comes with a six percent reduction in fuel consumption. The engine pushes the topless beauty on to a top speed of 285 km/h (177 mph).

The aforementioned six-speed gearbox comes with a MC Auto Shift software, which is based on the one used by the Quattroporte Sport GT S’ gearbox, thus offering “optimized gearshift response”.

The engineers have also played with the handling, upgrading the Skyhook active suspension. In addition to that, the braking system now uses grooved and drilled dual-cast rotors.

The list of exterior changes isn’t too long, including a black front grille, a Trident with red accents, a black look for the headlights, as well as a finish similar to the body’s one for the front corner splitters and the redesigned side skirts.

The Maserati GranCabrio Sport is scheduled to bring the fun starting from this summer.
