Is it possible for the Lotus Elise to get any thinner? The answer to this question is located on the Geneva floor. Yes, the Brits have trimmed 24 kg (53 lbs) off the standard Elise’s 876 kg (1,931 lbs) weight.

"Anyone harbouring under the misapprehension that Lotus might be moving away from performance through lightweight only needs to take a quick ride in the new 1.6 Lotus Elise Club Racer to know that’s definitely not the case. The bright engineers at Lotus put even the lightest of Lotus’ modern cars on a diet and managed to shed a further 24kg," a company statement reads.

The vehicle, already an example of lightness, has been put on an extreme diet, including elements such as a motorsport-inspired battery. In addition to that, the noise insulation has been removed.

The vehicle also comes with a revised suspension, which uses Eibach springs and Bilstein dampers, as well as an adjustable anti-roll bar.

For the first time ever an Elise variant comes complete with a Sport setting for the DPM (Dynamic Performance Management) allowing even the less experienced sports car drivers to feel at the top of their game, while the ability to switch it off completely will please the more established track orientated drivers. DPM combined with improved agility courtesy of Lotus finely tuned sport suspension and an adjustable anti-roll bar will make the Elise Club Racer equally versatile for both road and race track fun,” stated the press release.

The new incarnation of the Elise, which uses a 1.6-liter engine, becomes the entry-level version of the range, coming with a price of GBP27,500 / €34,450.
