Geneva 2011: Koenigsegg Agera R

The fresh Lamborghini might be the main new contender to the supercar title that was launched in Geneva, but the Koenigsegg Agera R is definitely something to behold. It’s not like the regular Agera that made its debut last year and ‘only’ produced 910 hp. Oh no, this freak of nature comes with a slightly larger engine, a 5.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 and that is packed with 1,115 hp and 1200 Nm of torque (when running on E85 ethanol). So this no longer mingles with the likes of supercars, this is a hypercar.

The engine is mated to a newly-developed seven-speed gearbox, which combines a dual clutch system with a single input shaft gearbox for the first time, resulting in extremely fast gear changes.

This is no American heavyweight car either, as the monocoque chassis weighs only 70 kg and the dry weight of the car is 1,330 kg, making it the lightest fully homologated hypercar in production, according to Koenigsegg.

All these improvements translate into a theoretical top speed of 440 km/h (273 mph), which the Agera would reach were it not limited to 375 km/h (233 mph).

The model seen on display here comes with a winter package which includes among others a carbon fiber roof box made by Thule. It can be used safely at speeds of up to 300 km/h (186 mph).
