Japanese manufacturer Infiniti is displaying quite an interesting line-up of models at the Geneva Auto Show this week, starting with the newest concept dreamed in its laboratories, the Etherea, and ending with one of its most solid products, the M hybrid.

The vehicle is powered by a hybrid system the Japanese auto maker likes to call Direct Response Hybrid. This system combines all the components of the car that make it what it is into one very effective package.

The hybrid system on the M features a one-motor, two-clutch parallel design, while drawing its power from the omnipresent lithium-ion battery pack.

The electric motor on the model, capable of developing 50 kW, is coupled with a 3.5l DOHC 24-valve V6 engine. Adding the power of the internal combustion unit to that of the motor, the total output of the car reaches 360 horsepower. The troop generated by the two is controlled via the 7-speed automatic transmission.

The Infiniti M is the first vehicle of its kind to adopt the soon to be mandatory on all hybrids and EVs Vehicle Sound for Pedestrians (VSP) technology. The system uses sounds to alert pedestrians when traveling in electric mode.

For the US market, the model will retail from $53,700 starting March 16. The non-hybrid versions of the model will sell for $47,700 (M37 RWD), $49,850 (M37 AWD), $59,100 (M56 RWD) and $61,600 (M56 AWD). No word on the prices the auto maker will charge for the model on the European market, but an announcement is expected soon.
