Genesis Motors, the South Korean brand owned by Hyundai, is preparing to launch its most affordable model so far, the G70.
Since the Genesis name is not that new on the market, we have to explain what the G70 will represent. While the G90 is the flagship sedan of the range, the G80 is slightly smaller, just like the discontinued Hyundai Genesis saloon. Meanwhile, the G70 will not be an E-Segment car, but an even smaller car, which will compete with the BMW 3 Series.

In a way, Genesis seems to have arranged its portfolio in a way that the trio of cars will be easy to understand for most, once everyone gets used to their naming scheme and strategy. Fortunately, Genesis is sold in the USA, so ambitious advertising projects should be expected.

Until then, it looks like the G90 is the rival of the S-Class and 7 Series, while the G80 will slide as the 5- Series and E-Class competitor. Their smaller brother, pictured in prototype form in the photo gallery of this article, will be the rival of the Audi A4, BMW 3 Series, and Mercedes-Benz C-Class, among others.

The new G70 will have to face serious competition, as the segment has entrants from Jaguar, Lexus, Cadillac, and Infiniti, which are brands with a better image and greater awareness. At first, it might look like Genesis has an impossible mountain to climb, one that is built on brand image and first impressions.

Some believe that Hyundai Motor Company’s new division will get customers interested in pinching the pennies, but others are aware that the South Korean brand could also get clients from the ranks of those that were not interested in traditional premium automakers.

As Tesla Motors has already shown, you can compete with traditional premium automakers even on price concerns if you show up with the right product. We will let you analyze the extensive photo gallery to see if the G70 would fit your bill.
