News about the Genesis marque and its vehicles have been flying all over the place lately, with things moving very quickly for Hyundai’s newly created luxury brand. Now, we have the first ever filmed footage of its flagship, the G90 limousine.
It was only a few days ago that Hyundai officially announced the existence of its premium sub-brand, the Genesis. Then, the Koreans insisted they would never try to hide or minimize the ties between the mother-brand and this new fledgeling that’s just starting its life in the automotive world. Finally, they’ve released a teaser for the first car to enter the Genesis range, which will incidentally also be the brand’s top of the food-chain model: the G90.

While the teaser was quite revealing, not the same can be said about the car lapping the Nürburgring track: it’s covered in so much camouflage that if we told you this was next year’s Mazda MX-5, you would have no choice but to believe us. Well, almost.

The fact that it’s clad in tons of camouflage makes it impossible to even attempt a comparison with the recently released teaser - there really is nothing to be made of the G90, apart from its overall dimensions, and even those would benefit from a more precise context.

So it’s obvious that we can’t make a clear impression of the car’s real-world design, but we can analyze the way it behaves on the track, and that’s at least just as important. It is a big car, that has to be said, and there’s no hiding that, but the Genesis G90 doesn’t shy away from tackling a corner at high speeds and seems to hold the line with relative ease.

The bumps don’t do much to upset it either, and the Green Hell sure isn’t lacking in those. Still, the G90 isn’t really going fast, and the fact that the driver even has time to notice the person filming and give him a second glance is proof he’s not pushing any envelopes.

With a scheduled release date set for next month, it’s unusual for a car to still be so heavily disguised, but Hyundai clearly wants to keep the suspense up until the very last minute. OK, Hyundai, if that’s how you want to play it...
