Genes Are Responsible for Driving Abilities...

... or at least that is what scientists think. So, aside from blaming your parents for your financial difficulties, you can also blame them for being a bad driver. It looks like parents are to blame for our lack of skills behind the wheel, a study conducted by the University of California, Irvine, revealed.

A defective gene is responsible for the availability of a protein that maintains a strong memory by supporting communication among brain cells. This means that a smaller area of the brain is stimulated as a response to a task. The study found that drivers that have this defective gene performed with over 20 percent worse on a test than those without it.

"These people make more errors, and they forget more of what they learned after time away. I'd be curious to know the genetics of people who get into car crashes. I wonder if the accident rate is higher for drivers with the variant,” s
aid Dr. Steven Cramer for the Daily Mail.

29 volunteers (22 without the gene variant and seven with it) took the driving test which consisted of 15 laps on a simulator that required drivers to accommodate with difficult curves and turns. The test was repeated four days later. Results showed those with the gene variant did worse on both tests.

However, those of you who feel they have this gene variant should know, before running and scream at your parents. it also has some advantages  If you have a neuro-degenerative disease such as Parkinson, Huntington or multiple sclerosis, the defective gene can act in your favor, by maintaining your usual mental sharpness longer.
