General Motors Plans to Invest $130 Million in Midwest Facilities

General Motors made plans to invest another $130 million in three plants in the Midwest. The manufacturer is investing $115 million in Toledo and Bedford, Indiana, plants so they will be able to supply cars with eAssist, an optional system designed to improve fuel economy by 25%. The first model to offer the eAssist system will be the Buick Lacrosse.Also Chevrolet Malibu will offer the system starting this year.

GM is also decided to invest $15 million in a Wyoming plant that provides engine components. The $15 billion investment is part of the $2 billion that GM is determined to invest in 17 U.S. plants over the next 18 months. General Motors forecast is that the investment will create 4,000 total jobs, as related by Detroit Free Press

Also General Motors also invested $130 million in its Warren, Michigan Campus. GM’s investment in order transform the former administrative building into a state-of-art Information Technology Operations and Command Center. The facility provides IT labs and serves as a world wide center for GM’s digital applications.

“This new facility and other GM data centers around the world support the tools the company needs to design, build and sell the world’s best vehicles through digital applications enabling all business functions,” said Terry Kline, GM vice president and chief information officer.

General Motors expects that the new facility will be more effective by reducing energy costs up to 40%.
