General Motors India Sales Increased 59% in 2010

General Motors India has just announced an impressive 59 percent increase in sales for 2010, compared to the previous year. The automaker has managed to shift 110,804 units in the 2010 calendar year, compared to just 69,579 units sold in 2009.

The carmaker has sold 8,468 units in December alone, banking on the success of its popular Chevrolet brand. The biggest surprise last month was the Spark, which comprised 2,691 units of the total. GM also sold 2,523 units of Chevrolet Beat, 1,694 units of Chevrolet Tavera, 623 units of Chevrolet Cruze, 288 units of Chevrolet Optra, 271 units of Chevrolet Aveo U-VA, 258 units of Chevrolet Aveo and 120 units of Chevrolet Captiva in India last month.

“We are excited by the continued overwhelming response to our products. Introduction of best-in-segment cars from the 300 series, increase in customer outreach through distribution network, our unique value proposition like Chevrolet Cashless Ownership offer and our promise to deliver quality and performance are the factors that have led to the impressive performance in 2010. Achieving these levels of growth also clearly reflects the customers’ confidence in our products. We are pleased to see such robust growth for all our car lines and we believe these world class products will further propel the Chevrolet brand in the market,” Mr. P. Balendran, Vice President, GM India, commented on his company’s performance.

The company crossed the 100,000 unit mark for the first time on November 27th, 2010, helped by a positive market response to the Beat, Spark and Cruze models. J.D Power gave top awards for quality to the 2010 Spark for the fourth consecutive time in the India Automotive Initial Quality Study.
