General Motors Begins Production of Saab 9-4x Crossover

Judging by the latest rumors, Saab will most likely live on under Spyker's ownership and, although some experts are raising concerns that such an alliance might not work, the Dutch carmaker will do anything that's possible to revive the Swedish unit. At least, this is what Spyker CEO Victor Muller promises when talking about Saab's future under his umbrella.

Anyway, an awkward report emerged today, informing us that General Motors recently started production of the Saab 9-4x crossover at its Ramos Arizpe, Mexico plant. Citing figures provided by Automotive News, leftlanenews.com noted that GM rolled out a total of 147 units last week.

Obviously, this raises a number of questions regarding the Swedish unit.

First of of all, we don't know whether the 147 units produced last week by General Motors are indeed production versions or are only destined to be tested in various regions around the world. But even so, what are GM's plans regarding the 9-4x crossover?

Secondly, maybe General Motors indeed agrees to sell Saab to Spyker. But what happens to the 9-4x?

Anyway, more and more reports coming from Sweden are suggesting that GM and Spyker reached an agreement and the Dutch carmaker will take control of Saab. The deal will be backed by loans provided by the European Investment Bank, despite Swedish officials' statements that the government hasn't decided yet whether to guarantee the loans or not.

However, both Spyker and General Motors are expected to announce the current status of the talks later today.
