Gender reveal burnouts are definitely more spectacular than gender reveal parties with cakes and balloons, but they’re also many times more dangerous, police warn expectant parents.
Queensland police has released footage of an older incident to prove the point, Gold Coast Bulletin informs. The burnout was one step to becoming a real tragedy, as the car used burst into flames and was completely wrecked. Luckily, no one was hurt. This time.

Next time, people might not be as lucky. According to the cops, parents used a 2017 Holden Senator to reveal to their friends and family that they were having a boy. They held the burnout on a deserted road in the suburb of Norwell in April last year. Everything seemed to be going just fine until the tires on the car exploded.

As you can see in the footage available at the bottom of the page, the same one released by the cops as a warning, the driver had to be pulled out from the wreck by partygoers. As black smoke replaced the blue one (It’s a boy!) and flames emerged from under the car, everyone pulled back. At some point, one man tried to get into the car two separate times, perhaps thinking he could still save the car from burning down.

He wasn’t able to do that. Australian police say the car sustained significant damage, but stress that this isn’t even the worst case scenario. The worst case scenario would have been if someone had gotten hurt.

Police arrested a 29-year-old man the next day in connection to the burnout, and charged him with one count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. Australia has some of the strictest laws regarding burnouts, so the dude didn’t get any leniency.

“The case was finalized in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court last year,” police say. They add that they’re releasing the video now because they want other parents / motorists to think of other, safer ways of revealing the gender of their unborn child to the world. Burning rubber will simply not do.
