Gemballa Owner Crashes Zonda at 200 MPH, Walks Away

The following story is about either a very well built car, or a very lucky individual. Earlier this week, on an Italian highway, a Pagani Zonda was doing its best to break the sound barrier. Unaware of the fact that the A10 motorway was no Bonneville Salt Flats, the driver of the Zonda accelerated well beyond the 70 mph speed limit (112 km/h).

All seemed to go according to plan. That is until the speedometer reached 199 mph (320 km/h) and disaster struck. According to police reports, the driver lost control of the space ship (sorry, car), which begun spinning out of control. Luckily, the Italian motorway is fitted guard rails, preventing the vehicle from rolling into the fields.

As you can see in the adjacent photo, the crash damaged the Zonda beyond recognition. When emergency services arrived on the scene, they probably expected to see carnage.

Instead, they watched the driver of the car, Steffen Korbach and his passenger walking away without a scratch on their bodies.

For those of you who aren't familiar with the name, Korbach is the 27-year-old man responsible for reviving German tuning house Gemballa, after the founder of the company, Uwe Gemballa, was found dead (read executed) in South Africa.

According to Austrian Times, Korbach is not at his first attempt to break the speed record on a public road. Last year, he was caught doing about the same feat on a German road.

And if you think that after trashing the Zonda he will have no toy to play with, think again. Sources say he owns several other supercars, including a Gemballa Mirage GT, several Lamborghini Gallardo and Murcielago, and a McLaren MP4-12C.
