Geely Recalling 55,000 Vehicles in China

Chinese automaker Geely has just announced the recall of 55,018 MK and MK2 vehicles manufactured between early January 2009 and late November 2010. The recall starts tomorrow, and it is set to last until the end of March 2013.
The reason for the recall is the size of the cars’ fuel tanks, which were sourced from an outside company, and they apparently have size discrepancies, and they may leak, due to the fact that they are situated quite close to the fuel pump pipe.

No incidents have been reported yet, but the company already has five lawsuits pending on the matter, so they will be repairing the flaw in all affected vehicles for free. The fix is an inexpensive one, anyway, and it can be quickly applied at any Geely dealership.

They will have undoubtedly learned to better control their outsourced parts, their quality and their accuracy, as such parts often arrive, only for the manufacturer to discover that they are not up to scratch, and not necessarily before installing them on their car, as was the case here.
