Geely McCar EV Comes With Incorporated Scooter

China is known to be the home to the world’s worst traffic jams, so it was only natural that small, clean, and affordable modes of transport would come from there. Acting to help ease city congestion, Geely, which also owns the Volvo car brand, presented an unique concept at the Shanghai Motor Show last week.

The result of two years' work, the project is called McCar (an abbreviation of "Magic Car") and acts as an ultra compact, two-door, four-seater with a built-in, folding three wheeled electric scooter in the rear.

When the scooter is docked, the car shares both its battery and electric motor to extend the all-electric range or ensure the scooter is fully charged. The engineers also envisioned that the car can be parked
out-of-town and users can continue their journey on the scooter stored in the back. Also, the three wheeled scooter can be swapped out to fit a standard fold-up wheelchair.

“Mc stands for magic on Geely McCar. The model, pertaining to Geely’s new product platform, has the comfort of a sedan, portable traffic tools, and convenience. At the same time, McCAR boasts double barrier-free accessibility. As to power system, McCAR equips a traditional gas engine and hybrid power system with double batteries in order to realize the goal of saving energy and reducing exhaustion,” Frank Zhao, vice president of Zhejiang Geely Holding group, the person in charge of Geely’s R&D said in a statement for the press.

McCar is planned to be developed as a hybrid model and as a fully electric model capable of a 93 miles (150 km) per charge. The  electric scooter itself is expected to have a range of 18 miles (29 km) per charge.
