Geely Does the MINI Me

We've have gotten used to seeing, for the past few years or so, all types of Chinese cars that come remarkably close to vehicles that are manufactured elsewhere. And by remarkably close, we don't mean similar in performance, but strangely similar in design.

We've seen the Chinese having their shot at all types of vehicles, ranging from Rolls Royce and ending with some BMW models (an X1 clone manufactured by BMW's Chinese partner itself, Brilliance). And now, it's time for Geely, one of the most active Chinese automakers when it comes to creating controversial models, to step in once again and show the world how they see the... MINI.

At the Shanghai New International Expo Center, says WorldCarFans, the Chinese are displaying a model they like to call Emgrand EC6-RV. On the other hand, the rest of the world likes to call the general lines of the vehicle MINI Cooper.

We are as aware as the next guy that there are only a limited number of ways in which you can design a car, so the above comparison might be just the result of an unplanned coincidence. Then again, having the reputation some of the Chinese automakers have, seeing past mere coincidence is more than an exercise of imagination.

The Emgrand EC6-RV is not even the first MINI clone we've seen coming from China. In November last year, a less known automaker that goes by the name of Chongqing Lifan Industry presented the Lifan 320, the ugliest MINI clone we've ever laid our eyes on.

With all said and done, the fact remains that Geely will produce the Emgrand EC6-RV. It will fit it with a 1.3l turbocharged engine, pair it with a dual-clutch and a six-speed manual transmission and send it on its way.
