GE and Nissan to Integrate EVs Into Everyday Living

Japanese manufacturer Nissan and GE Global Research announced today the creation of a new partnership, aimed at researching new technologies for EVs. The three years Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed today aims to create the perfect environment for the creation of a dynamic smart-charging infrastructure.

"In the past few years, we have seen an acceleration of innovations in plug-in hybrid and electric cars that have sparked a revolution in smart-charging technologies," Mark Little, senior vice president and director, GE Global Research said in a release.

"Together with Nissan, we will take a comprehensive look at what technologies will be needed in the car, on the grid and at home or work to make smart charging a reality."

There are two main areas on which the efforts of the new partnership will concentrate. The first thing on the agenda is the integration of electric vehicles with homes and buildings, while the second will focus on the dynamics of the charging dynamics with the larger electric grid.

"Nissan's vision is to realize zero-emission mobility through a holistic approach by collaborating with various partners in a broad range of industries," said Shunichi Toyomasu, corporate vice president, Nissan. "Working with GE, we expect this joint research project will provide insight for the home/building and electric grid connections which supports electric vehicle."

Work on the joint project will be conducted at the GE's global research headquarters in Niskayuna, New York and at the Nissan Technical Center North America in Farmington Hills, Michigan.
