Gatorback Fastest Lap Award Goes to Jimmie Johnson

And this, we reckon, pretty much wraps up the great year Jimmie Johnson had when it comes to his racing endeavors. After making history once again, by winning five consecutive Sprint cups and got named Driver of the Year, the NASCAR driver was once again slammed with an award: Gatorback Belts Fastest Lap Award.

This is the fourth such award for Johnson, in Gatorback's seventh year of handing it. The award, which recognizes the Cup driver who wins the most Fastest Lap Awards each week, means another trophy in Johnson's home display and an extra $100,000 in his bank account.

To take the win this season and get named the driver with the most fastest laps, Johnson had to battle Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin.

"Jimmie's a fierce competitor, who displays diverse, yet consistent driving talent," Tory Perren, aftermarket marketing manager for Veyance Technologies, was quoted as saying by NASCAR. "His efforts on and off the track with the Jimmie Johnson Foundation make it an honor to recognize him with this award again this year."

This great season for Johnson ended at the beginning of the month, in Las Vegas, where the champion received the fifth consecutive Sprint Cup crown. This past season, Johnson managed to win $13,393,186 from the races and, during the award ceremony in Las Vegas, received an additional check for $5.778 million.

He was selected Driver of the Year by a panel which comprised journalists and broadcasters from all over the US, managing to beat NHRA Funny Car champion John Force.
