Gary Rothwell Breaks His Own Wheelie Speed Record, Does 337.5 KM/H

Gary Rothwell's former fastest wheelie world record was a short-lived one, but for Gary, the fact that it was broken after only a month or so is a reason for joy. That is, because it was the same Liverpool-based daredevil that set the new record, blowing the previous one to smithereens by a hefty margin.

Back in the summer, an event staged by the Straightliners at the Elvington Airfield near York, in the UK, Rothwell rode the world's fastest wheelie at 197.879 mph or 318.387 km/h. Even this performance was mind-blowing, considering that the riders must wheelie at least one kilometer (0.62 miles) to have their record homologated.

Record after record, even on the rather insane side of things

Still, Rothwell arrived at Elvington last Sunday (20th of September) prepared even better to write one more page in the motorcycling history book. He was clocked at 200.3 mph (322.28 km/h) first, but 20 minutes later Gary had another run that changed everything utterly.

His fastest wheelie was 209.8 mph (337.56 km/h), smashing even his previous run by a solid margin. It will be interesting to see who will be able to make this record a thing of the past, and whether Gary will be the one to do so once more. He used a 540 bhp turbo Suzuki Hayabusa to accomplish this magnificent and scary result,

It's far from being Gary's first acquaintance with the world records books, as one of his 1999 performances still endures to date. Back then, Rothwell used a pair of special boots with titanium soles and was towed behind a motorcycle, reaching a top speed of 156.3 mph (251.48 km/h), visordown reports.

We guess that Rothwell could do well to form a daredevil club, maybe having Swiss Jürg Schläfli as co-founder. The latter was towed on rollerblades by Mrs. 200 mph, Valerie Thompson.
