Gary Paffett Praises Bruno Spengler Ahead of 2014 DTM Championship

Last year, the DTM Championship was very entertaining, keeping things on the edge right until the last race, when Mike Rockenfeller from Audi managed to claim the Driver's title, Augusto Farfus and Bruno Spengler finishing on the podium, bringing the second, consecutive manufacturer's title to BMW since its return to the DTM in 2012.

Gary Paffett, from Mercedes-Benz finished 6th. He was also Bruno's teammate at for two years and thought that the Canadian could've done better in different conditions. However, when asked about the recent moves done by the 4 BMW teams that are lining up against the Mercedes camp for the 2014 season, Gary had an interesting view on things.

He was Bruno Spengler's teammate between 2005-2006 and 2007-2011 at Mercedes and knows the Canadian pretty well. Seeing as he will be teaming up with Martin Tomczyk at Team Schnitzer he was rather happy about it, saying he's expecting tougher competition this year.

“I think Bruno [Spengler] is a quicker driver than Martin [Tomczyk] and I think Bruno will beat him,” Paffett told TouringCarTimes. “However, I could be wrong. I think in races, if Bruno is out in front, he can go away and drive very well; that’s his strong point, he’s a good qualifier and can drive well at the front."

Last year, Martin blamed his team for finishin 19th and this year we'll get to see who was right, as Marco Wittmann will be replacing Tomczyk at Team RMG. If he also finishes amongst the last, it's definitely the team's problem. Otherwise...

I, for one, hope that the charismatic Bruno Spengler will manage to win his second title in the DTM, after winning the 2012 championship, in BMW's first year after returning to the DTM.
