The son of racing legend and three-time Formula 1 champion Sir Jack Brabham has been charged with one count of rape and one count of indecent treatment of a girl under the age of 12.
Gary Thomas Brabham, 54, was recently convicted in the Brisbane District Court in a trial that first made the news in October 2013, but was repeatedly delayed over the last few years due to legal arguments.

Apparently, the girl was abused by Brabham between 2003 and 2007, but she only told her mother in 2013.

There are many other details about the case available, but we're pretty sure that no one in their right mind would be interested in them. Gary was initially charged with one count of rape and six counts of indecent treatment but was found not guilty of five counts.

It is not known if the verdict is final or if Brabham will make an appeal, but it should be noted that he pleaded not guilty since the beginning of the trial, according to ABC News.

Gary, who is also the brother of Le Mans winners David and Geoff Brabham, was a professional racing driver in his younger days as well, although his career never really took off and stayed under the level of his better-known family members.

Somewhat successful in junior formula and winning the British Formula 3000 championship in 1989, he also tried his luck in Formula 1, but with disastrous results. Gary was part of arguably the worst F1 team in history during the 1990 season, Life F1, for which he failed to pre-qualify in the first two races and then left the team altogether.

A few more attempts with sportscar racing didn't end much better either, concluding his racing career with not a single high-level win, apart maybe from the 1991 Sebring 24 Hours alongside his older brother Geoff.

His father, Sir Jack Brabham, passed away in 2014 after fighting with liver disease, so all hasn't been well in the Brabham family in the last few years.
