WRC 5, the official video game of the FIA World Rally Championship, will have a parallel eSports Championship of its own.
The competition is the first of its kind on a global scale and will host multiplayer tournaments that run simultaneously with the real-world rounds of the WRC season. We’re speaking of a championship on all WRC 5 platforms, which means that PS4, XBOX One and PC players will each battle their counterparts on the same platform and each will have a separate semi-final and final round.

The cool part is that the three top players from each platform will be invited to the high-profile shootout final in Britain, WRC’s official portal informs. There’s no word on the big prize, but a chance to get a free ticket to Great Britain for the last round of the WRC Championship to battle for an eSports Champion title is enough, if you ask us.

The eSports WRC Championship divides the season in two halves, with separate categories for the three platforms on which the WRC 5 game is available. Unlike other games, the qualifiers and semi-finals will be contested on special stages that are new to the WRC 5 game. Once the gamers download the special stages, practice is unrestricted ahead of the rally weekend.

From Thursday to Sunday, players will each have one opportunity a day to record their best time and claim an undisclosed semi-final place. The final round will be a complete rally and the player with the best time wins.

The entire eSports WRC Championship is organized by Bigben Interactive, WRC Promoter and WRC 5 publisher, along with Kylotonn Games, the developer of the game. ESL, the world’s largest eSports Company, is also supporting this massive online and offline eSports championship. Unlike Nissan’s GT Academy, there’s no promised motorsport entry for the big championship winner. One can only hope, right?
