Guangzhou Automobile Group and Toyota Motor Corporation joint venture will reportedly recall over 2,000 Highlander midsize SUV models due to defective air bags.
According to General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, the recall involves vehicles produced between May 20th to 29th 2013.
It looks like the inspectors have found a small defect in the airbag’s inflator and diffusor assembly, that can cause an insufficient inflation which translates into the incapacity of the system to properly reduce the speed of impact of the occupant in case of a crash.
GAC-Toyota will contact the involved vehicle’s owners, which will have to go to the nearest dealership in order to check their airbags and replace any faulty parts free of charge.
