G63 AMG with Hamann Body Kit and Topcar Interior Is a Red Russian Rooster

Because the G-Class was originally designed as an army vehicle, it has an undeniable utilitarian look. You could almost imagine somebody using it to tend to his prized flock of German sheep. However, we could never envision a fire truck based on the G63 AMG... probably because it's known to burst occasionally into flames.

But one Russian oligarch liked the color red so much that he didn't mind turning his G-Wagon into something that resembles a fire truck. He didn't do it alone, as he was able to call upon the expertise of two major players in the tuning industry.

The body kit is obviously the Hamann Spyridon. It was made famous by the G65 but eventually found its way onto its smaller V8 AMG stablemate.

We'll talk more about the kit later, but for now, we need to point out that the red and white paintjob was executed at the Moscow headquarters of Russian tuner Topcar. They are renowned across the continent for their alligator skin interiors. But this time, they went with something a little more discreet.

Nappa leather took the place of reptile hides and was done in a very nice quilted pattern. Black and red is used to create a very bright interior setup that rivals a strip club concerning audacity. Keen-eyed readers may have already spotted that a bit of carbon fiber trim has been used here and there. The center console, steering wheel, and air vents are all covered in red carbon fiber, but there's also normal black one on the console. Overall, we'd say that the interior customization has been far more successful than that of the body.

The Spyridon kit has some nice touches, but making the G63 AMG wider is like giving muscle implants to a bodybuilder: ugly overkill. The things we like about this package include orange indicators that have been moved from the top of the fenders to the sides and a spare wheel delete. The exhaust system is also a nice touch. But we wonder if all this extra kit hasn't given the brick-like G63 the aerodynamic characteristics of a house on wheels.
