Hidden deep in the press release for the LF-30 Electrified, Lexus confirmed the reveal of a BEV in November 2019. It's likely the culprit is the UX subcompact crossover, which shares the TNGA-C vehicle architecture with the Toyota C-HR. As a brief refresher, Lexus has also trademarked UX 300e last year.
The luxury division of Toyota doesn’t plan to stop there, but electrify every Lexus model by 2025. Hybrids, plug-in hybrids, BEVs, and FCEVs are in the pipeline, and the sales of electrified vehicles are expected to outpace those of ICE-powered models by the middle of the next decade. What does the LF-30 have to do with this outlook? For starters, it serves as a preview for things to come.

The concept makes use of four e-motors integrated into each wheel, steering by wire, and Lexus Advanced Posture Control. A combined rating of 536 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque translates to 3.8 seconds to 62 miles per hour (100 km/h) and a top speed of 124 miles per hour (200 km/h).

As you can tell, Lexus isn’t trying to challenge Tesla with the LF-30 Electrified. Under WLTP, the concept is also supposed to cover 311 miles (500 kilometers) on a full charge, and that sounds somewhat underwhelming for a 110-kWh battery integrated into the floor to lower the center of gravity.

Let’s take the Tesla Model X Long Range, a full-size electric SUV, for reference. The most the Californian crossover can travel in one go is 505 kilometers, and that’s impressive if you remember how much this fellow weighs and how high it stands when compared to the Lexus LF-30 Electrified.

Yakisugi (a.k.a. charred cedar) is used in the floor and steering controller of the LF-30 Electrified, complemented by recycled metal that was processes into fibers for the door trim. The gesture-controlled SkyGate display window is another strong point of the concept, featuring augmented reality to display a star-filled sky, YouTube videos, and satellite-navigation data.

Envisioned for the year 2030, the futuristic concept also promises 150-kW charging without a plug. That level of kilowatt hours isn’t possible with today’s technology as far as wireless charging is concerned, and this gets us to the 7.2-kWh system from Plugless Power that retails at… wait for it… $12,999.
