It seems that 2012 is the year of collaborations between European and Japanese automakers, for the development of sports cars. After Mazda and Fiat, it’s now time for BMW and Toyota to take the spotlight.
As you may have read in our recent editorial, Toyota is very keen on a joint effort with BMW that doesn’t only include battery development or diesel and hybrid technology, but the creation of a sports car. According europe.autonews.com, this BMW developed, Toyota-badged sports car, which may or may not be called ‘Supra’, will possibly be underpinned by the current 6-Series chassis and running gear setup.

Another possibility to arise out of this joint venture is the creation of a Lexus-badged sports car, which may have been previewed by the LF-LC concept, shown in Detroit, earlier this year. However, in-keeping with the green commitment the two companies have made, another plausible course of action may be the creation of a Toyota sports car with BMW i8 technology.
