Cadillac, the crown jewel of General Motors, has yet to climb out of the hole it finds itself in. Due to modest sales figures, the automaker has made a few changes to its near-future product plan.
Not too long ago, executive chief engineer Dave Leone said that the General Motors-owned brand is working on a compact-sized sedan to take on the likes of the Mercedes-Benz CLA and Audi A3 Sedan. A more recent report from Automotive News, however, suggests that Cadillac is not going to add the CT3 to its lineup in the foreseeable future, chiefly because crossovers are king.

In mid-2018, the ATS with be rejuvenated with an all-new generation and an all-new name. Hence, the Cadillac CT4 will take it over from there on in, in sedan, coupe, and convertible formats. Also in 2018, Cadillac will debut the XT3. The compact crossover is expected to be built at Fairfax Assembly.

“A redesigned CT5 sedan should replace the current CTS in the first half of 2019,” we’re told in the report. The CT5 Coupe is believed to arrive in 2020. The XTS, however, won’t live beyond 2019 and won’t get a successor. In 2019, Cadillac is expected to take the veils off a large crossover. For all intents and purposes, the XT7 will ride on a stretched variant of the XT5's platform.

The Escalade full-size sport utility vehicle won’t get a freshening until 2018. A redesign is expected around 2020. Till then, the addition of a 10-speed auto in CY 2017 will have to suffice. The much-anticipated Cadillac CT8 flagship sedan won’t appear until 2020 at the very least. As per the peeps at Automotive News, the Cadillac CT8 doesn’t have a definitive timeline.

In the nearest of futures, Cadillac will start importing the CT6 Plug-In Hybrid from China for the U.S. market in the first half of 2017. Speaking of the CT6 full-size sedan, a 4.2-liter twin-turbocharged V8 codenamed LT5 could be added to the engine range for model year 2018. Fingers crossed it will.
